anthotypes

An Anthotype is a photographic sun print created in vegetable juice. These vegetable images were created by extracting juice from selected plants grown on the allotment and picked on an appropriate day in the biodynamic calendar. The juice was then used to dye handmade paper and a photographic image of the plant was printed onto acetate and placed over the dyed paper. This was then exposed to the sun for 2 to 6 weeks. The sun bleached away the unprotected dye on the paper creating a unique positive print of the vegetable, a photograph, with its own juice.
